Crown and Bridge are prosthetic devices that are fixed onto teeth or implants. They work in conjunction with each other to fill in the space left by missing or removed teeth.
What is a Crown?
A crown is a dental “cap” that is used in dental restoration to cover and strengthen the tooth. It can be used to repair damaged teeth that do not require removal. They can also prevent further damage and decay from occurring by acting as a protective covering. It can be durable porcelain that can protect the tooth and look very natural. These have now become very important part of cosmetic dentistry.
Why would you get a crown?
1) To protect a weak tooth (for example, from tooth decay) from breaking or hold together parts of a cracked tooth and prevent chipping (for example, from excessive grinding)
2) To restore a broken or worn down tooth.
3) To cover and protect a tooth with large fillings and less tooth.
4) To hold a bridge in place.
5) To cover a dental implant so it can function like a natural tooth.
6) For cosmetic reasons such as covering discolored or misshaped teeth.
7) To cover a tooth after a root canal therapy.

What is a bridge?
A bridge is a prosthetic that is used to replace a missing tooth or a tooth that may have been removed. It can be 3 or more crowns connected together to replace a missing tooth. Usually two crowns are placed on each side of the missing tooth, then the two crowns are connected or ‘bridged’ by another crown to fit in the space of the missing tooth.
Why do you need a bridge?
1) To provide structural strength to prevent further wear and tear on the remaining healthy teeth.
2) To make chewing and speaking easier.
3) To prevent teeth from moving.
4) To maintain a heathy smile.
